Dusk
My favorite time of day is dusk. I love it. When the sun has just fallen beneath the horizon, but its presence across the sky is still hanging on by a glow. To look east is to see a dark navy sky dotted with just one or two strong stars. Stretch your gaze across the heavens and the shade becomes a lighter, warmer blue. Look west and you'll see a California finish: purples, then pinks, and a yellow amber haze where the sun once hung before it fell beyond the ocean. I love dusk. To me it's special, it's worth pausing for and taking in.
I feel like we have something in common; dusk, you, and me. We have a beauty worth pausing for.
Life is short, sometimes too short. But I think that gives our lives a potential for real beauty. Not the kind of beauty one frames and hangs on a wall. That kind of beauty is easily forgotten, overlooked. Until one day you happen to fall on your couch exhausted, look up, and get struck by the beautiful image you've had in your living room this whole time yet failed to notice for weeks, months (years).
No, our beauty- I believe- is like dusk. I think God pauses to take it in. To watch us. To love us.
"The steps of the godly are directed by the LORD. He delights in every detail of their lives." -Psalm 37:23
Do something beautiful today.
